The Northern Ireland Science Park will open its doors to the past when it hosts the 2nd Annual Titanic Vintage Day on Saturday 14th August from 10am to 4pm at the Titanic’s Dock & Pump-House. Presented by AutoRegister and www.whatsonni.com and sponsored by the Northern Ireland Science Park, car enthusiasts and fashionistas will be able to view and admire vintage gems from all over Northern Ireland. Entrance on the day is free with on site car parking available for a small charge. On display will be vintage and classic cars from all over Northern Ireland including Deloreans, a Wolseley 1947, 1930 Model A Ford, Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II and the DAF 44. The Morris Minor Owners Club will also be in attendance as part of their NI Regional Rally and will exhibit over sixty Morris Minors. The Chambers Limousine 1927 will make a special appearance on the day – the only one of its kind still on the road. The car was recently purchased from the Irish National Museum in Kilkenny by direct descendants of the original manufacturers of the famous Belfast-built car. Visitors will also be able to browse and buy at the Vintage Fair which will showcase the best NI has to offer from suppliers of antiques, vintage clothes, jewellery, models, records, cards and much more. The fair will take place in the Studio Room of the Edwardian Titanic Dock and Pump-House, which was once the beating heart of Harland & Wolff during the construction of the great White Star Liners – the Britannic, Olympic and most famously, the Titanic. Guided tours of the Dock and Pump-House will be available on the day which will bring visitors on a journey of discovery behind Belfast’s maritime heritage. Bouncy castles and face painting will provide some added fun and entertainment for the kids. There will also be Living History and Boat tours operating throughout the day. There will also be an opportunity for budding photographers to win £100 by entering the Titanic Vintage Day photography competition sponsored by the Northern Ireland Science Park. Entries should be photographs taken on Saturday 14th August 2010 within the Northern Ireland Science Park site which includes Titanic’s Dock & Pump-House. Photographs may be of cars, buildings or the surrounding dock – see www.titanicvintageday.co.uk for more details. Jacqueline McGonigle from www.whatsonni.com said that the event will be a fun day out for all the family to experience and enjoy Northern Ireland’s heritage. She added: “We would encourage visitors to dress for the occasion with prizes to be won for best dressed couple, best dressed boy and best dressed girl. Prizes have been kindly sponsored by Hastings Hotels, The Modellers Nook and whatsonni.com. I would encourage everyone to come along for a day full of originality and flair!”
